ESPRID is a web-based Information Source for researchers and policy-makers concerned with Strategic Spatial Planning in a European context. It contains material from academic books and journals, policy reports, plans and policy statements, databases and websites. It also includes information on relevant experts. It has been designed to be particularly helpful to those involved in INTERREG programmes and ESPON 2006, and to those developing spatial strategies across Europe.

International Federation for Housing and Planning  (IFHP) http://www.ifhp.org/

IFHP is a forum for learning and networking within the profession of housing and planning. It seeks to further the gradual evolution of the profession itself and to help provide solutions for specific problems. It is in touch with the latest developments and general policy trends. IFHP provokes discussions between experts, politicians and interest groups while there is still time, i.e. before final decisions have to be made in order to solve certain problems.
The Federation believes that comparison is a valuable tool for learning. Comparison of similar issues in different geographical, economic or cultural contexts may cast a totally new light on the approach to a particular problem.
  

International Network for Urban Development (INTA)

INTA is an international network that encourages the exchange of information, experience and best practices on urban development and renewal across the world.
Incorporated in Paris in 1974 as a not-for-profit association, INTA has been granted Category 2 Status with the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations and has Consultative Status with the Council of Europe.
  

International Network for Urban Research and Action

INURA is a network of people involved in action and research in localities and cities. The Network consists of activists and researchers from community and environmental groups, universities, and local administrations, who wish to share experineces and to participate in common research. Examples of the issues that Network members are involved in include: major urban renewal projects, the urban periphery, community-led environmental schemes, urban traffic and transport, inner city labour markets, do-it-yourself culture, and social housing provision. In each case, the research is closely tied to, and is a product of, local action and initiative.  There are currently 12 regional offices in Zurich, Rostock, London, Amsterdam, Florence, Brussels, Toronto, Buffalo, and Mexico City.

Mcrit carries out activities in the area of development and implementation of planning support systems (information, forecast, evaluation and/or communication) for a number of institutions at the local, regional and European level.

Mcrit both develops and transfer planning systems to institutions and/or use them directly to produce policy-assessment studies in the areas of spatial planning, with emphasis on transport and environment.

Mcrit research activities have focused on the development of new software technologies to support open multi-software systems driven by user-friendly, fully-customised web-interfaces.

Communication and effective dissemination of advanced scientific tools to any interested user have played an important role in Mcrit work since the beginning. METREX - The Network of European Metropolitan Regions and Areas

METREX was founded at the Metropolitan Regions Conference in Glasgow in April 1996 by representatives from many of the 120 or so recognised metropolitan regions and areas of Europe. The Conference was supported by the European Commission and other European organisations with an interest in spatial planning and development at the metropolitan level.

Nordregio was established 1 July 1997, following a proposal in September 1996 by a Nordic working group. They called the new Institute Nordisk senter for regional utvikling og planleggning or, in English, a Nordic Centre for Spatial Development.  

This role includes the aspects of research, education and knowledge dissemination. The Centre is to: Initiate and carry out research projects and analyses where the comparative perspective is central; offer internationally attractive educational programmes, where the sharing of experience provides new angles of approach to national issues and activities; disseminate experience and contribute to the professional discussion on spatial analyses, planning and policies.

Proyecto Cities

El objetivo es identificar las ventajas competitivas de cada una de ellas y mostrar los factores de éxito y las principales innovaciones urbanas que se están desarrollando, especialmente aquellas que inciden en la forma física de la ciudad y en la estructura de la región metropolitana. The Sustainable Cities Network was originally established in September 1995 in order to allow the interchange of ideas and experience with regard to urban sustainability. The first phase of the Network was intended to build upon research being carried out within the Economic and Social Research Council's (ESRC) Global Environmental Change Programme and the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council's (EPSRC), Towards Sustainable Cities Programme. This phase of the Sustainable Cities Network was funded by ESRC and EPSRC and ran from September 1995-.March 1998. The current second phase is funded solely by ESRC and runs from May 1999 to December 2000. In this second phase, links have been developed with the journal Local Environment and the International Council for Local Environmental Initiatives (ICLEI) in order to establish the SCN as a permanent presence and to hold an annual conference around the theme of urban sustainability.

The mission of UN-HABITAT is to promote socially and environmentally sustainable human settlements development and the achievement of adequate shelter for all. UN-HABITAT, formerly known as UNCHS (Habitat), was established in October 1978 as the lead agency within the United Nations system for coordinating activities in the field of human settlements. It is the focal point for the implementation of the Habitat Agenda – the global plan of action adopted by the international community at the Habitat II Conference in Istanbul, Turkey, in June 1996. Its activities contribute to the overall objective of the United Nations system to reduce poverty and promote sustainable development within the context and the challenges of a rapidly urbanizing world.
