International Network for Urban Research and Action INURA is a network of people involved in action and research in localities and cities. The Network consists of activists and researchers from community and environmental groups, universities, and local administrations, who wish to share experineces and to participate in common research. Examples of the issues that Network members are involved in include: major urban renewal projects, the urban periphery, community-led environmental schemes, urban traffic and transport, inner city labour markets, do-it-yourself culture, and social housing provision. In each case, the research is closely tied to, and is a product of, local action and initiative. There are currently 12 regional offices in Zurich, Rostock, London, Amsterdam, Florence, Brussels, Toronto, Buffalo, and Mexico City. |

METREX - The Network of European Metropolitan Regions and Areas METREX was founded at the Metropolitan Regions Conference in Glasgow in April 1996 by representatives from many of the 120 or so recognised metropolitan regions and areas of Europe. The Conference was supported by the European Commission and other European organisations with an interest in spatial planning and development at the metropolitan level. |

Nordregio was established 1 July 1997, following a proposal in September 1996 by a Nordic working group. They called the new Institute Nordisk senter for regional utvikling og planleggning or, in English, a Nordic Centre for Spatial Development. Sustainable Cities Network http://www.hull.ac.uk/geog/research/html/suscity.html The Sustainable Cities Network was originally established in September 1995 in order to allow the interchange of ideas and experience with regard to urban sustainability. The first phase of the Network was intended to build upon research being carried out within the Economic and Social Research Council's (ESRC) Global Environmental Change Programme and the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council's (EPSRC), Towards Sustainable Cities Programme. This phase of the Sustainable Cities Network was funded by ESRC and EPSRC and ran from September 1995-.March 1998. The current second phase is funded solely by ESRC and runs from May 1999 to December 2000. In this second phase, links have been developed with the journal Local Environment and the International Council for Local Environmental Initiatives (ICLEI) in order to establish the SCN as a permanent presence and to hold an annual conference around the theme of urban sustainability. |
